There is a contrast of activity in north London this January transfer window whilst Arsenal look unlikely to do any business, their neighbours Tottenham Hotspur are looking to complete their second deal before the end of the second week of the month. Timo Werner has already arrived on loan and now Spurs have a greed a deal with Genoa to sign exciting centre-half Radu Dragusin.
Unlike Arsenal too, Spurs have focused in on the Italian market. The Gunners recently signed Jakub Kiwior from Spezia for only slightly less than the £25.5million deal which includes £4million in add-ons that Dragusin will sign for, football.london understands.
The difference already seems significant, however, between the two, with Spurs needing to bat away interest from Bayern Munich toward the end to land the Romanian. He is appreciated as one of Serie A's top young defenders and perhaps Tottenham have a rival to Arsenal's own young star.
Do not get me wrong, William Saliba is now an established Premier League and Champions League level defender and Dragusin needs to go some way to reach his level. Yet, with the likes of Micky van der Ven impressing so much already despite an injury, Ange Postecoglou looks to be making some shrewd moves in the market.
Add to that the volatile but admittedly very good Cristian Romero, and suddenly the core group of centre-halves has a serious challenge to the depth at the Emirates Stadium.It is no surprise that Mikel Arteta wants to add more to his defence — although it looks unlikely this will happen in January.
