Victor Osimhen has established himself as one of Europe's most prolific centre-forwards in recent years. The Nigerian striker netted 26 times in Serie A last term to help Napoli clinch their first league title in over 30 years.
Osimhen's current contract with the Italian outfit is set to expire in 2025 — leading to speculation that he could leave the club in the next 12 months. Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with a move for the 24-year-old as the two London clubs look to bolster their attacking options.
football.london understands that the Blues wanted to sign Osimhen in the summer, but Napoli were determined to hold onto their marksman so Nicolas Jackson was signed from Villarreal instead. When discussing Osimhen potentially heading to the Emirates Stadium last month, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside: «I'm aware there have been some reports linking Arsenal with Victor Osimhen, and this follows some outlets claiming the Napoli striker’s agent held talks with the Gunners around a year ago.
»We know that Arsenal and Chelsea are both keeping an eye on strikers for 2024, so it’s normal to see these links. But it’s important to reiterate that it’s very difficult to consider those links for January because Napoli insist they don’t want to sell him in the middle of the season. For the summer, anything can happen but it isn’t being decided now for sure."
Arsenal spent over £200million in the summer transfer window bringing in the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya. The Gunners will need to sell before they can buy players in January — in order to abide Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations — but that hasn't stopped them from considering a move for Osimhen.
