Ben Davies looks set to be handed a new role at Tottenham at the start of 2024 with Ange Postecoglou hit by another blow. Micky van de Ven and James Maddison have each missed the last seven weeks due to injury with the early hope being they would both be back at some point during January.
With that initial return date fast approaching, Postecoglou was asked for an update last week. «Hard to say. They're both in rehab and neither of them are anywhere near training with the first team at the moment. If you look at timelines, Micky and Madders did it in pretty much in the same game,» he said.
«Micky might be just ahead of schedule in terms of with Madders. Both kind of January and Bentancur fairly similar. It's not about trying to not give out information, these things kind of either accelerate or get delayed when you get into the final phase. Until I see them out with us, it's hard for me to say.»
Joining Maddison and van de Ven on the injury list is Rodrigo Bentancur, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon while Yves Bissouma is suspended for the next three games. Cristian Romero had recently served a similar ban before his return to the Tottenham defence for the London derby against West Ham earlier this month.
Following that defeat, Romero has been able to find his footing again, playing key roles in wins over Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, although his afternoon against Everton ended prematurely.A tight hamstring was given as the reason for his withdrawal and Postecoglou has now revealed the Argentine will miss the majority of January.
On Wednesday, he said: «It’s not so great with Romero. He had a scan the other day. He’s got a hamstring strain. So we’re looking at probably four weeks, five weeks for him.» In
