Larne's Andy Ryan was struck by something thrown from the crowd during his side's win over Glentoran
Larne striker Andy Ryan has called on Irish League fans to drop the missiles after he was hit by an object thrown from the crowd in Tuesday night’s County Antrim Shield Final.
The 29-year-old was struck by a liquid-filled container deep in injury-time during Larne’s 2-1 win over Glentoran at Seaview.
The County Antrim FA is set to review the incident and Glentoran said they will investigate the matter and “act accordingly.”
The Glens are likely to face another fine from Irish FA disciplinary chiefs.
The club were slapped with a £5,000 sanction following disturbances involving their supporters at Seaview during the Premiership game against Crusaders in October when there were ugly scenes in the corner of the ground as travelling supporters tried to get into the Shore Road End stand reserved as a family stand.
During the Shield Final, flares were also let off.
A County Antrim FA statement said the match delegate was “aware of a number of incidents which took place”.
“We are awaiting the match delegate’s official report following which we will review its contents and if required, escalate to the relevant authority,” said the County Antrim FA.
After Ryan was hit by a plastic-type glass containing a liquid, he was distressed for a time and brushed away fluid from his eyes before action could resume.
