The Benfica coach says that the player wanted by Real Madrid, will not leave Benfica in January.
Benfica head coach Roger Schmidt spoke at a press conference earlier today about his player António Silva, who is wanted by Real Madrid. And Schmidt cleared up any doubts about a possible winter departure. “We will not let António Silva leave. We are halfway through the season and we have big objectives with Benfica,” he said.
The 20-year-old Portuguese centre-back has been on Real Madrid’s radar for some time. With the recent losses at the back through injury, rumours of a possible winter move had emerged, but that has now been ruled out by Schmidt, who added that his player “is happy at the club”. The German coach has not said anything about a possible departure in the summer.
Silva has been a regular starter in Benfica’s defence over the past two seasons. He has made 13 Portuguese league appearances this season for a Benfica side that is second in the league, just one point behind rivals Sporting CP.
