Chelsea make brutal Trevoh Chalobah decision after summer transfer deadline day drama

Chelsea are still looking to sell Trevoh Chalobah when the January transfer window opens, football.london understands.

The 24-year-old, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury, wanted to move to Bayern Munich at the end of the recently-concluded window, with the German club wanting to sign the defender on a loan deal. Chelsea, however, who were open to letting Chalobah leave Stamford Bridge, preferred the proposition of a permanent deal.

The Blues were seeking around £50million for Chalobah – a figure Bayern were reluctant to pay. Time ran out for the German champions, with their deadline being at 5pm on the final day of the window, meaning Nottingham Forest came in with a late proposal to sign the defender permanently. However, Chalobah did not want to move to Forest so a deal never materialised.

Tottenham were also linked with a late deadline day loan deal. The north Londoners are long-term admirers of the defender and could return for him in the January transfer window.

Chalobah is facing exile from the Chelsea first team squad, as reported by the Standard, and football.london understands the defender has been told there is a chance he will not play for the club again this season after refusing to complete a transfer away from the club. Chalobah has asked if he can play for the Under-23s, once he returns from injury, in order to keep his fitness levels up. The Blues will once again look to sell Chalobah in the January transfer window.

Chalobah was open to leaving Chelsea for the majority of the summer but his intent to depart became even stronger when the club decided to sign Axel Disasi in August. With Wesley Fofana suffering a serious ACL injury that is expected to keep him out for the majority of the season,
