Ilia Topuria called out Conor McGregor after becoming the UFC featherweight champion after a fierce knockout of Alexander Volkanowski on Saturday evening.
Topuria won the main event at UFC 298 with a powerful right hand, leaving Volkanowski unconscious on the canvas. After the fight, the 27-year-old had a message for McGregor during his post-fight interview in the Octagon. "Conor McGregor, if you still have some balls, I will be waiting for you in Spain," he announced.
Topuria began the match strongly in the first round, landing several well-placed right hands after Volkanovski's well-timed leg kicks. However, the champion found his rhythm in the second round, using his jab effectively and executing leg kicks. Volkanovski demonstrated his veteran skills by cutting angles and looking for counter-attacks amidst Topuria's aggressive moves.
Topuria found his rhythm and moved forward, planting his feet and delivering a powerful right hand that dropped the champion with one punch. With this decisive hit, Topuria clinched the featherweight championship, making history as the first champion in UFC history from Spain.
