The 'Dani Alves case' has already been resolved. According to Catalan media, the footballer will have to be jailed after the Court of the 21st section of the Audiencia de Barcelona has ruled a sentence of 4 years and a half in prison for the events that occurred on New Year's Eve 2022.
According to the sentence, the former Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG and Pumas UNAM player committed a sexual assault with penetration of a 23-year-old girl in the Sutton nightclub. This happened in the early hours of 31st December 2022 and the facts were reported in the following hours.
Alves was arrested on 21st January 2023 after travelling from Mexico City to Barcelona to discuss the case with his lawyer. The Mossos d'Esquadra detained the Brazilian in the same office and he was taken to make a statement before being remanded in custody, where he has remained since then while the proceedings have been ongoing.
One of the factors that have affected the right-back is that he has changed his version of what happened up to four times. At first he claimed that he did not know the victim and had not seen her. Then he admitted that he went into the bathroom of the discotheque and that the girl came after him, but that nothing happened and that he only went to relieve himself. From there he went on to say that there had been oral sex, then that there had been consensual sex and finally his defence used alcohol as a mitigating factor. Each change was a consequence of the emergence of new incriminating evidence.
In addition, the former Brazilian footballer will have to pay 150,000 euros to the victim for the psychological and physical damage he suffered that night.
