Darren England is set to make his return to the Premier League after controversially disallowing Luis Diaz's goal for Liverpool against Tottenham. Spurs beat Jurgen Klopp's side in September following a last-minute own goal from Joel Matip, however the victory was overshadowed by the significant mistake from the officials.
Diaz thought he had put the Reds in front only for the linesman's flag to be raised with officials in Stockley Park agreeing with the on-pitch decision. However, days after the clash, with the VAR audio from the game released to the public, it was revealed England thought the goal was given on the pitch and therefore his «check complete» comment was referencing his belief that the correct decision had already been made.
In the wake of the controversy, the officials involved were removed from Premier League duties with Klopp adamantly calling for a replay. With the incident occurring nearly three weeks ago, anger from Liverpool supporters has subsided slightly and following the October international break, England is set to make his return.
With the PGMOL revealing he would not be involved of any Liverpool games for the remainder of the season, England will return to his duties at the Gtech community stadium as the fourth official for Brentford's clash against Burnley.
Elsewhere, Craig Pawson is set to take charge of the Merseyside Derby at Anfield between Liverpool and Everton. He will be assisted by Marc Perry and Wade Smith as well as Thomas Bramall as the fourth official. David Coote and Stuart Burt will be in Stockley Park as the VAR and assistant VAR respectively.
