The last time Liverpool travelled to AFC Bournemouth, Darwin Nunez was in a rich vein of form.
He had scored on both of his last two starts against Toulouse and Nottingham Forest, while he’d got an assist off the bench against Everton following his return from international duty in October.
Scoring in both World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Brazil, and also claiming an assist in the latter, he had registered four goals and two assists from his last five outings. And such a run extended to six goals and four assists from his last 10 appearances for club and country.
With the November trip to the Vitality Stadium coming in the League Cup fourth round, the Uruguayan was limited to only substitute duty. Introduced on the hour-mark, he would ultimately decide the game in treacherous windy conditions.

Yet, in the 12 weeks since that breathtaking strike, the goals have dried up. While he’d score three goals for Uruguay during the November international break against Argentina and Bolivia, an early Boxing Day effort against Burnley is his only goal for the Reds from his last 16 appearances since last travelling to the South Coast.
Of course, he is still making an impact. Six assists have followed during that drought, including two in another match-winning effort off the bench
