Jurgen Klopp is confident that Alexis Mac Allister will be fit for Liverpool’s clash with Chelsea on Wednesday despite sitting out their FA Cup win over Norwich City.
The Reds ran out 5-2 winners over the Canaries thanks to goals from Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk, and Ryan Gravenberch, with the victory setting up a fifth round clash with Watford or Southampton.
Liverpool welcomed Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Andy Robertson back from injury. However, Mac Allister was missing from the matchday squad against Norwich with teenager James McConnell impressed on his full debut in the Argentine’s absence.
And speaking after the final whistle, Klopp confirmed the midfielder’s absence was an enforced one but only precautionary ahead of back-to-back Premier League clashes with Chelsea and Arsenal.

“Alexis, I would say the last game of the season, decider or whatever, he could have played but in all other games not,” he said. “He felt a little bit so we said, ‘Nah, nah, I don’t want to know more.’
“That’s just it, so we gave him a rest. I think he should be ready for Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, Klopp explained his decision to substitute Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez, when sharing how pleased he was to give the returning Alexander-Arnold, Szoboszlai, and Robertson minutes on the pitch. However, the German made a point of reiterating how well his side have done in the trio’s absences.
