Edu left regretting £75m Alexander Isak transfer mistake as huge Arsenal problem resurfaces
Arsenal transfer chief Edu Gaspar has been left regretting his decision not to sign Alexander Isak back in 2022 with the Gunners now struggling to score goals. Isak was a serious target for Arsenal in the winter of 2022, when Edu reported back to Arteta with the news that the striker was available for just under £75million.
The Gunners decided against pursuing a deal and ended the month without signing anyone to bolster their front-line. The club are now facing a similar scenario with Arteta revealing it's 'unrealistic' to think Arsenal could sign a new striker this month.
Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard have all failed to prove their consistency in front of goal this season. The Gunners' lack of clinical finishing in the final third has seen them fall to fourth in the Premier League table, as well as crashing out of the FA Cup.
Newcastle went on to sign Isak just a year later in a £63million deal following a campaign in which Isak had managed only six La Liga goals. Whilst it seemed to be a huge gamble at first, the Swedish forward has enjoyed a brilliant first 18 months at St. James' Park leaving Arsenal to regret their decision not to sign him.
Despite injuries hampering his start to life in the Premier League, Isak has still managed 23 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions for the Magpies. The 24-year-old has netted nine Premier League goals this season, three more than any Arsenal player has managed.
