Efstathiou: There's a lot of negative publicity about Middendorp

Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou is very impressed with the way Ernst Middendorp has managed to turn things around at the club.

The Urban Warriors are still stuck at the bottom of the table with 10 points gathered in 18 league matches.

Spurs have now won three league matches and have reduced the gap between them and 15th-positioned Richards Bay FC to only three points.

"He works hard, he's an honest coach, sometimes there's a lot of negative publicity about coach Middendorp but I don't know why to be honest," Efstathiou tells KickOff.

"All of us have weaknesses and we also have our strengths, but to be honest he's got more strengths than weaknesses.

"Under a very tight budget that we have he's been able to find a solution.

"He understands the financial situation he doesn't ask for things that cannot happen, he is very reasonable.

"He's what we asked for, he's all good for us for now.

"And we give him all support we can give him whatever we can.

"There’s a lot of young players coming through at the moment, against TS Galaxy we had six players from the academy in the starting line-up.

"If he sees a player is good enough it doesn't matter what age he will play him.

"So I think the future of the youth at the club is very healthy."

Spurs will be hoping for another three points when they visit Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

Pirates were the first team to lose all three points to Spurs who produced one of the biggest upsets in the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League season after going eight matches without a win at the time.
