The Evening Standard are reporting that Ângelo Gabriel’s (19) season could be brought to a premature end. The Brazilian, currently on loan at RC Strasbourg Alsace from Chelsea, is back at Cobham.
With Strasbourg mired in a relegation battle, there are fears that they may have to do without their only recognised right-winger. Gabriel, who has made 25 appearances with Les Alsaciens, registering four assists, since making the loan move in the summer is back in London in order to get a second opinion on an ongoing hernia problem.
“On the pitch, there is cause for optimism, but the departure of Sels has precipitated an existential question at Strasbourg. For whom do we exist? For Chelsea, or for ourselves?”

According to The Evening Standard, there are now fears that the Brazilian winger will miss the final eight games of the season at Strasbourg. It is a significant blow for RCSA, who against the will of manager Patrick Vieira, did not sign another winger in January. The club’s BlueCo owners, who also own Chelsea, opted against further recruitment in that position, in order to prioritise Gabriel’s development. That plan could now backfire. Strasbourg are currently 12th in Ligue 1 but just four points above the relegation play-off spot.
