L’Équipe report that whilst Fabio Grosso’s position as manager of Olympique Lyonnais is not yet under threat, it will become so should there not be a drastic improvement in results soon.
Grosso inherited a team in crisis when he replaced Laurent Blanc in September. OL’s transfer window was an unmitigated disaster. They lost their best players in Bradley Barcola and Castello Lukeba, whilst the DNCG’s restrictions prevented them from replacing them. What Lyon did spend, they spent poorly, a fact that is reflected in the hierarchal changes at the club since then.
Regardless, Grosso has not managed to spark a revival. The Italian manager has just one win in his first seven games at OL and his side are firmly planted at the foot of the table. Last week, former Olympique de Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli was linked with a shock move to Lyon, however, the report was quickly shot down by club owner John Textor, who took to social media to support his manager.
Grosso also told Prime Video Sport that Textor had offered his support in private too, in the wake of Les Gones’ latest defeat, against Lille OSC (2-0). However, whilst Grosso’s job is not yet on the line, it may well be “very soon” if there is not a significant uptick in results.
