Oliver Skipp is certain that Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham team are only going to get better. Following a summer of change in north London with the Australian appointed as head coach after two terrific years at Celtic, Spurs head into Christmas Day fourth in the Premier League table.

Initially unbeaten in their first ten Premier League fixtures before a slump in form in November and early December, the Lilywhites are in an excellent position to attack 2024 and possibly seal a return to the Champions League after returning to winning ways. Tottenham are now only four points off current league leaders Arsenal after recording a hard-fought 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday.

Making it three successive wins in the Premier League despite missing a host of top players, Skipp believes that there is still a lot of improvement to come from the group and that in turn points to a bright future under Postecoglou.

“There were times we broke through the press well and times where we didn’t especially in the second half," he said. «The whole team can only get better as well as you look at the ages of a lot of the players and there is a lot of improvement from this group. I am certain of it.

»I just think the whole package. We are only four months into this style of play and I am sure that we can definitely improve and we will improve."

Asked about the upcoming returns of Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison to boost the squad, he added: “For sure we know that they are all quality players and will all add to the group. We will be more than happy when they come back. We know for the moment they need to concentrate on their rehab and players who are available will be ready to play when called on."
