Postecoglou delivers James Maddison injury update and believes Tottenham are in the title race

Ange Postecoglou believes Tottenham are in the Premier League title race, has delivered an update on James Maddison and given more detail about his discussions with new signings before they arrive.

Despite all of the injury and suspension issues this season, with the number of unavailable players often running into double figures, Postecoglou has got Spurs in fifth place in the Premier League table, a point behind reigning champions Manchester City and title hopefuls Arsenal and just six points off leaders Liverpool.

The Australian was asked whether he thought Tottenham were currently in the title race and with a smile he asked a question in return: «Well, define to me what a title race is.»

When the response was that it was a realistic chance of winning the title and being just a point behind last year's title contenders, he grinned even wider.

«Yeah, so by that definition if I say 'no' you'd turn round to me and say 'come on Ange'. By definition, we are aren’t we?» he said. «So, yes we are and I’ve said all along that until the point where you’re not, why would you discount the possibility? We’ve gone through a really tough period and we’re hanging in there.

»We had four games when results went against us, but we’ve clawed our way back. We’re still in there. Our performances for the most part have been pretty consistent, but all that is meaningless if we don’t finish the season stronger than the first half of the season and that’s what we’ve got to do."
