The second international break of the season is nearly over and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remains on course to get exactly what he would have wanted.
In fact, there has even been a double boost over the past few days. One being Gunners supporters needn't have worried about Thomas Partey playing 45 minutes of Ghana's 2-0 loss against Mexico in the early hours on Sunday (UK time) as the decision was pre-planned given he's only just returned from injury.
«Thomas was always only going to play 45 minutes,» Chris Hughton told reporters. «He has been out injured for three to four weeks, he came back for Arsenal last midweek, was on the subs bench for one game and played 20 minutes for the next game. So we knew he was only going to play 45 minutes.»
The other welcome bit of news for Arsenal is Sky Sports has revealed Eddie Nketiah's omission from England's squad for this evening's (Tuesday) Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy. As there's been no suggestion of an injury, the striker should be fresh for club matters — albeit slightly frustrated to not be involved for the Three Lions.
Having said that, Arteta finds himself in a position where he's just one more round of international fixtures away from avoiding the worst-case scenario ahead of his side's return to Premier League action against Chelsea.
Now, Partey isn't the only player whom the Arsenal boss will be hoping for good news on. In fact, the midfielder could be one of four senior stars in action in the early hours tomorrow (Wednesday) as Kai Havertz's Germany face Mexico whilst Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Jesus are in line to start for Brazil against Uruguay.
