Tottenham are expected to be big movers in the January transfer window. Head coach Ange Postecoglou is already missing a number of players through injury and will be without more by the time January comes around.
That is because captain Son Heung-min will be heading off to the Asian Cup with South Korea, while Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr will be off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Mali and Senegal respectively too. With the likes of James Maddison, Micky van De Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur not expected back from injury until late in January or February, Postecoglou will be thin on the ground when it comes to numbers available.
Postecoglou is looking to strengthen in the midfield and defensive areas, while without Son for an extended period, he may well go into the market for another forward too. Across the park for new signings then.
When asked about the club's business, Postecoglou said: «I don't really know. It's one of those things, January is a fairly tricky month in terms of clubs doing business but we've got guys in the background working it out and once the window opens we'll see if we can make an impact.
»We're pushing hard but you need all parties to agree to that. Other clubs, particularly if it's players they want, will be wanting to hold on to them for as long as possible for their own reasons through January. It is a challenge, I get that, but everyone at the club is working hard to get the best outcomes for us and we'll see how it goes."
