Warren Zaïre-Emery has quickly risen through the ranks to become a key figure in Paris Saint-Germain’s midfield, and speaking to Le Parisien, he has called on the Tit Parisien to become PSG’s Steven Gerrard.
Zaïre-Emery has enjoyed a stratospheric rise. Having broken through under Christophe Galtier last season, he has become one of the first names in the team sheet under Luis Enrique. In 20 appearances this season, he already has three goals and five assists, and has drawn high praise from some of football’s leading figures, including Thierry Henry.
“The sky is the limit. I have never seen a player that young being so mature. Usually, you have youngsters that play as forwards that make the difference. But when you play in midfield for a team like PSG, you need to readjust. It is rare to see such a young player in that position,” the France U21 manager said back in October.
PSG are looking to extend Zaïre-Emery’s contract, and reports suggest that this will be done when the Frenchman turns 18 in March.
Al-Khelaïfi has now called on Zaïre-Emery to spend his entire career with Les Parisiens. “He is a Parisian. He loves the club too and also wants to stay here a long time,” began PSG’s president.
He added, “Warren should become the Steven Gerrard of the club. He should spend his whole life here. He comes from here, he loves the club, loves the badge. He is where he is thanks to the club. He is a great boy. We have no doubts about him as a player, nor as a person […] he is an example for all of the young players.”
In his short career with Les Parisiens, Zaïre-Emery has already won the Ligue 1 title with PSG, as well as the Trophée des Champions.
