Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp absolved Jarell Quansah of blame for the mistake that allowed Manchester United to equalise in bizarre circumstances in Sunday's 2-2 draw.

Quansah's careless pass to Virgil van Dijk saw the ball given to Bruno Fernandes inside the centre circle and the United captain made it 1-1 with a first-time finish due to Caoimhin Kelleher being way out of his goal.

The strike from Fernandes was United's first of a game that saw Klopp's team dominate but they needed a late Mohamed Salah penalty to rescue a draw after Kobbie Mainoo's wonderful effort had made it 2-1 to Erik ten Hag's men.

Reflecting on the mistake from Quansah, Klopp opted against criticising his young centre-back as he urged the player to avoid dwelling on social media in the coming days.

“As a football player in the Premier League and playing for Liverpool, I have the bad news it will not be the last mistake in his life, unfortunately," Klopp said. "That’s how life is. I thought he dealt extremely well with it, we dealt well with it. But when our idols in the past made these kinds of mistakes there was no social media so I hope he’s smart enough to switch that off.

"Don’t read the Daily Mail or whatever where they go for people in these moments and make it personal. He dealt extremely well with it and that’s part of the game."
