Huge Arsenal Champions League claim made as Mikel Arteta tipped as threat to Man City crown
Former Premier League star Michael Owen has claimed that Arsenal are one of the best sides in the Champions League this season and believes they will be the main threat to Manchester City's crown. It comes as the Gunners took another step towards qualification for the knockout rounds of the competition on Tuesday night.
The north London side have had to wait years to make their bow in the top European competition once more, but returned in style with victory over PSV Eindhoven in their opening clash. Defeat to RC Lens away in their second game made life a bit tougher and brought a reminder of the harsh reality that comes with facing different teams on the continent.
To round out the first set of fixtures, Arsenal then had to travel to Spain to face off with serial cup winners Sevilla. It was far from an easy tie for Mikel Arteta's side, but two quick goals either side of the break gave them the confidence needed to control the match.
Nemanja Gudelj pulled one back for the hosts to make it a difficult end to the game, but the Gunners held out to ensure they secured all three points. Results elsewhere in the group meant that Arsenal now sit top, four points clear of third and with the possibility of confirming a place in the knockouts soon.
It's currently unknown just how far this group of players could reach in the competition, especially given the fact they are competing on all fronts so far this season. However, there's a growing feeling among most that they could be the side to beat alongside current holders Man City.
