Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has shared his theory on Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
The Reds produced an impressive display at Anfield as they battled against title rivals Man City. The draw saw Liverpool slip to second place, behind Arsenal on goal difference, but manager Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for his side after the final whistle.
A testament to the quality of both teams was Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk facing off against last season’s top scorer Erling Haaland. Van Dijk has spoken about his battles with Haaland in the past but Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had a new take on the duel between two of the best players in the Premier League.

“I was speaking to the lads when the game was going on, he’s up against [Erling] Haaland as well. Haaland’s the best centre-forward in the world. For me, Van Dijk is right up there in terms of centre-backs”, Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I made a comment there, I don’t know if people might agree, I actually think Virgil van Dijk’s a better centre-back than Erling Haaland is a striker. That’s how highly I rate Virgil van Dijk, I think he’s absolutely outstanding and if you’re thinking about the battle between maybe the best at centre-back and the best centre-forward, Virgil van Dijk came out on top.”
Liverpool’s injury list went almost unnoticed during the game, despite Van Dijk starting in a backline without Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, as well as missing Alisson Becker in goal. The Reds boast the second-best defence in the league, in terms of goals
