Jamie Carragher was full of praise for Virgil van Dijk following his impressive performance up against Erling Haaland at Anfield.
The pair went toe-to-toe for much of Liverpool's exciting Premier League contest with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Anfield. John Stones had opened the scoring for the reigning champions before Alexis Mac Allister's penalty ensured a share of the spoils.
Haaland was then the subject of plenty of post-match chat in the Sky Sports studio, with Carragher saying: "[It was] brilliant. I said before the game, that the best centre-backs in the world - even in the Premier League you look at Tony Adams, John Terry, those types of figures for their clubs and I see him in that same category for Liverpool.

Given Haaland was, as mentioned, limited to very little across the encounter, naturally, the conversation flipped as to which player is seen as more of a standout, despite both playing in completely different positions. Carragher, however, still backed Van Dijk as the better all-rounder, insisting that the Dutchman's capabilities outweigh Haaland's talents.
"But the greats look after you at the back, and that’s why he was Man of the Match. Look at who he was up against - Erling Haaland is the best centre-forward in the world and for me, Van Dijk is right up there as the best centre-back but I actually think he’s a better centre-back than Haaland is a striker.
