The Irish national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann, has been played for the first time at Windsor Park just before kick-off in the Women’s Nations League clash between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Despite numerous games between the two nations over the years, the Irish anthem has never previously been played at the Belfast venue, but history was made this evening ahead of the derby match.

In the end though, NI manager Tanya Oxtoby and her players walked off the pitch hurting after suffering a humbling 6-1 defeat to their neighbours – the heaviest loss of her six-match reign.
Goals from Lucy Quinn and Heather Payne, just a couple of minutes apart, shortly before half time had put the Republic in the driving seat.
And after Kyra Carusa and Katie McCabe netted within the first five minutes of the second half the game was killed off as far as it being any sort of contest was concerned.
