Tottenham's transfer dealings in the January market haven't always gone to plan. While there have been some big success stories after the acquisitions of Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro, the less said about the Gedson Fernandes and Arnaut Danjuma deals the better.
At a time when the vast majority of Premier League clubs stood still in the January window just gone, Tottenham were active and completed the signings of Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner. Whereas the Dragusin deal is very much one for the long term after the Romanian inked a deal with the club until the summer of 2030, Werner's move was more for the short term after he joined on loan from RB Leipzig.
The German international, just like Dragusin, could very much become a player for the years ahead after making such an impact in his first 11 games for the Lilywhites. Arriving with Premier League experience under his belt and a player with all the qualities to be a big hit in Ange Postecoglou's system, the 28-year-old appears to be giving Spurs a very easy decision to make this summer in regards to his future.
Named in Postecoglou's starting XI for Sunday's match against Nottingham Forest, Werner was a pivotal figure in the contest and he got things started for Tottenham in their 3-1 win. Played in down the left by captain Son Heung-min, Werner took one touch of the ball and delivered such an inviting cross that Murillo could only turn into his own net from a matter of yards out.
Tottenham's No.16 unfortunately won't get the assist to his name as it was an own goal but he certainly deserves recognition for his role in the opener. His cross was also very familiar to the one he delivered against West Ham five days earlier as he again put a low ball
