Jordan Pickford has insisted that Sunderland vs Newcastle United is the biggest derby in the country over the upcoming Celtic and Rangers showdown.
The Glasgow giants will face off at Celtic Park to round off 2023 - with top spot in the Scottish Premiership set to be up for grabs with Brendan Rodgers' men stuttering in their defence of the crown while Philippe Clement has the Ibrox side flying as he remains unbeaten since replacing Michael Beale in the dugout. And despite the mammoth fixture taking Scottish football into the New Year, Pickford has his eyes on another clash.
Eddie Howe will take his English Premier League side to the Stadium of Light on January 6 for an FA Cup blockbuster - with diehard Black Cats' fan Pickford insisting that the fixtures it the biggest derby face off in Britain. The last Tyne-Wear derby was all the way back in 2016 and asked about the fixture by beIN Sports the Everton and England number one turned hype man for the fixture.
Asked by how much the clash means, Pickford responded: "Personally in the country I don't think there is a bigger derby. I think it's on a par with Celtic vs Rangers.
"For me it's one of the biggest derbies, atmosphere wise. It's a great day out. For me the atmosphere is right up there."
