Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has avoided punishment over an alleged slur aimed at Mason Greenwood, with the Spanish FA dismissing the case.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation determined there was no credible evidence Bellingham made an offensive remark to Greenwood.
Bellingham had alledgedly aimed a slur at Greenwood after clashing with the Getafe forward in a match last month.
The England star had landed a crunching tackle on Greenwood to force the ball out of play, and when footage of the incident circulated on social media, fans believe they noticed the England international mutter the word 'rapist' at the forward.
Greenwood had previously been charged with attempted rape, assault, and coercive behaviour in January 2022 but charges were dropped on February 2023 by the Crown Prosecution Service following the withdrawal of key witnesses.
LaLiga officially reported the incident to the Spanish FA last month, citing the social media claims and media reports.
Spanish reports had claimed Bellingham could have faced up to a four game ban had he been found to have made the slur.
The Spanish FA's Competition Committee reportedly received a report from a lip-reading expert, after it was ordered by RFEF in the days following the incident.
According to Marca, the expert was unable to determine whether Bellingham had said ‘rapist’ or ‘rubbish’.
