Jurgen Klopp will bow out as one of Liverpool's greatest managers after his bombshell announcement. However, things might have played out differently for the departing German had his wife - Ulla Sandrock - not stopped him from stepping into the dugout at rivals Manchester United instead.
Klopp sent shockwaves across the footballing world on Friday morning when he confirmed he would be standing down at the end of the season. Liverpool are, as such, gearing up for a new adventure without the coach who put them back on the map and lifted every trophy available to him.
The 56-year-old might yet win a few more competitions before moving on with Liverpool well-placed not only in the Premier League, but the Champions League and both domestic cups too. No matter what happens in the next five months, though, Klopp will forever be etched into Liverpool's grand old history.

But the story could have been quite different. Speaking previously, Klopp revealed he was approached with a view to replacing Sir Alex Ferguson as United's manager in 2013 - eventually pitching up at Anfield two years later - while the finer details were brought into the public domain by ex-Liverpool man Phil Thompson.
