Kylian Mbappe quizzed on Paris Saint-Germain future amid ongoing Liverpool transfer links

Kylian Mbappe has insisted he is “focusing on football” after firing Paris Saint-Germain top of Ligue 1.

Reports in recent days have suggested a move to Real Madrid is off the cards despite looking a shoo-in earlier this year. The Frenchman is out of contract in July but his astronomical wage demands are thought to have repelled interest from the La Liga giants.

Madrid even released a statement last week confirming that no agreement was in place to sign the PSG superstar, who also attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League in the summer.

The announcement read: “Given the information recently issued and published by different media outlets, in which there is speculation about alleged negotiations between the player Kylian Mbappe and our club, Real Madrid would like to state that this information is completely false and that no such negotiations have taken place with a player who belongs to PSG."

Should Mbappe seek pastures new, the Premier League is likely the only destination - aside from Saudi Arabia - where clubs can cave in to his wage demands. Liverpool have an abundance of attacking options but are one of the clubs to have been continuously linked with the PSG superstar.

But the player himself has refused to fuel speculation following an emphatic display against Reims. The 24-year-old bagged a ruthless hat-trick in a 3-0 win to fire the Parisians top of Ligue 1 and, speaking post-match, claimed he will let his football do the talking.

“(Is) last summer's trouble now forgotten?” Mbappe said. “I focus on playing football as there are already too many rumours. I let you speak about
