Arsenal star Leandro Trossard has claimed that he has what it takes to replace former fan favourite Granit Xhaka in north London. Xhaka enjoyed a stellar 2022/23 campaign, netting seven goals and providing a further seven assists in the Premier League, helping the Gunners challenge for the Premier League title, although they eventually narrowly missed out to Manchester City.
But the Swiss international opted to leave the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window, joining Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen, who currently sit top of the German top-flight, undefeated after 12 games. There has been plenty of talk about who is good enough to effectively replace Xhaka's spot as Arsenal's left-sided number eight.
Kai Havertz and Fabio Vieira have both been utilised in that role this season, with neither player able to consistently hold a spot down. Declan Rice has also been deployed there, although he himself has admitted his best position is slightly deeper.
At the weekend, it was versatile attacker Trossard who was used in the role, playing well in his side's 1-0 victory. When asked if he thinks he can be the one to replace Xhaka, the Belgian said: «Yes I think so.
»It’s a position I can handle as well. I’ve played there with the Belgian national team. If I can get a run it’s different but I need to be switched on because it can change every week.

«It’s based on the game plan. Not every team plays the same system and the manager thinks a lot about those things so it’s up to me to keep going and pushing to have game time.»
