The Kylian Mbappé farewell tour began with a comfortable victory over Nantes last weekend. The France captain came off the bench in that fixture, and it took him just minutes to make an impact, slotting home from the penalty spot to double Les Parisiens’ lead and secure a 2-0 win. The Frenchman has reportedly told PSG that he has decided to leave at the end of the season. That clarity may now allow PSG to focus on what must be done on the field between now and the end of the season. With Nice once again slipping up, Les Parisiens now have a seemingly unassailable 13-point lead at the top of Ligue 1, and Luis Enrique’s decision to seemingly rest Mbappé with another crucial Champions League fixture coming up later this month, is a sign as to where their priorities lie. PSG will inevitably drop points between now and the end of the season, and teams such as the resurgent Rennes are primed to profit.
When Rennes were 1-0 down at half-time to rock-bottom Clermont in late December, their name was featuring increasingly prominently in the relegation conversation.
