Speaking to RMC, Lille president Olivier Létang has discussed the possibility of premier striker Jonathan David leaving the northern club this summer after long-term speculation over his future.
Létang, who expects David to play against OGC Nice in the club’s opening league fixture this weekend, stated that “certain conditions” must be met if LOSC are to sell the Canadian international who returned to form last season, scoring 24 Ligue 1 goals. The former PSG and Rennes director explained that David was told he would not be allowed to move clubs last summer but that it would be different this off-season.
The 23-year-old striker has a contract that runs until 2025 in France and will only be let go if Lille can adequately replace him, stated Létang, who sees David as central to his club’s sporting ambitions this season, while a “significant sum” would need to be offered to secure the Canadian’s services as Lille’s financial position has improved markedly as opposed to “two or two and a half years ago when the club had the obligation to sell.”
David is currently valued at €60m by Transfermarkt and has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia and Spurs in recent weeks.
