Linfield have announced that supporters' group Blue Unity have been banned from attending their games
Fed-up Linfield chiefs have told supporters’ group Blue Unity they are no longer welcome at Windsor Park or as part of their travelling support.
In a strong-worded statement, issued on Saturday evening, the club made it clear they are banning the ‘Linfield ultras group’ from home and away matches.
The action comes after the Irish FA hit the Blues will the severe punishment of full stadium closures following repeated supporter disorder in the stands, which Linfield blame on Blue Unity, at matches.
Linfield insist they will appeal the Irish FA sanctions as they view them as unfair and ask in the statement what more they can do to control their fans after several incidents this season.
The Blues have been hit with a one-match stadium ban for home spectators in the West Stand and a further two-match full stadium closure for home supporters after their fans set off pyrotechnics ahead of the second half of their Premiership tie against Coleraine.
Linfield were also fined £3,000 for incidents at the Showgrounds, but it’s the stadium bans which have rocked the club and its supporters.
The Irish FA’s Disciplinary Committee has activated a one-match stadium closure for home spectators in the West Stand of Windsor Park – this follows a one-game ban that was imposed and subsequently suspended following the Boxing Day game against Glentoran.
That one-match stadium ban for home spectators in the West Stand will apply to the game against Newry City on March 16, while Linfield fans are also banned from attending the first two Windsor Park clashes after the League split.
