Liverpool 17-year-old midfielder keeps on scoring in impressive showing

Kieran Morrison continued his impressive form as Liverpool under-18s romped to victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Morrison scored twice with Keyrol Figueroa, Kareem Ahmed and Trent Kone-Doherty also on target as the Reds earned a 5-1 victory in their U18 Premier League North clash at Kirkby on Saturday.

The 17-year-old Northern Ireland U19 international had netted in the FA Youth Cup win over Fulham last Sunday along with the 4-3 defeat at Manchester United earlier that week.

Lucas Pitt had already hit the post before the Reds took the lead midway through the first half when Cody Pennington's cross from the right was headed home at the far post by Figueroa. The lead was doubled five minutes before the break when, after a Liverpool corner wasn't properly cleared, Pitt recycled the ball into the area and Ahmed converted at the second attempt.

Blackburn responded strongly at the start of the second half, hitting the post twice and pulling a goal back through Patrik Farkas. But Liverpool restored their two-goal lead on the hour when Michael Laffey's throughball sent Kone-Doherty clear to finish confidently.

Morrison then scored twice inside 60 seconds. The first on 77 minutes was a free-kick curled into the top corner, and then finished well after an exchange of passes with Figueroa.

Liverpool are next in U18 Premier League North action when they entertain Manchester City next Saturday (kick-off 11.30am).
