Liverpool's youngsters were brought down to earth when they suffered Premier League 2 defeat at home to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
With Lewis Koumas and James McConnell in the starting line-up having been on the bench for the first team the previous day at Nottingham Forest, the Reds' under-21 side were beaten 2-0 at the Academy at Kirkby.
Both Koumas and McConnell played the first half while Trey Nyoni, who made his senior debut in the FA Cup win over Southampton last Wednesday, and Kaide Gordon, who came on as substitute, featured for the full 90 minutes.

Rhys Williams made his first appearance since a loan spell at Port Vale was cut short after just 16 days in February due to injury, and Mateusz Musialowski was back in action having been sidelined since before Christmas.
Despite the strong side, goals at either end of the game did the damage for the Reds. Omari Kellyman opened the scoring on eight minutes after good work from Kobei Moore, with Moore then clinching Villa the points 14 minutes from time by converting from the spot.
Liverpool are next in Premier League 2 action on Sunday when they take on Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium (kick-off 1pm).
