Jordan Veretout was touch-and-go to face Shakhtar Donetsk, however, the Olympique de Marseille midfielder has lost the race against time to compete in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League fixture.
The France international has been suffering from a thigh injury, but it had been hoped that he could make the squad to face the Ukrainian side. He joins Bilal Nadir and Valentin Rongier on the sidelines and leaves Gennaro Gattuso with a lack of midfield options. With Pape Gueye and Jean Onana both omitted from Les Phocéens’ Europa League squad, Geoffrey Kondogbia’s return after missing the last two fixtures is very timely. He is expected to partner Azzedine Ounahi and Amine Harit in OM’s midfield.
Up front, Marseille will be without the suspended Ismaïla Sarr, meaning that Luis Henrique is likely to get the nod on the right of the front three.
