Chelsea take on Wrexham tomorrow morning with Mauricio Pochettino set to hand a number of youngsters an opportunity to impress him in the Blues' opening pre-season game
Chelsea face Wrexham tomorrow morning (1am kick-off, UK time) in the Florida Cup, as the Blues kick off their pre-season tour of the United States.
Chelsea's match against Wrexham in North Carolina will be the first chance to see some of these players in action in the famous blue shirt. The Blues have taken a very young squad over to the United States, with the group of 29 having an average age of just under 22-years-old.
For Pochettino and his backroom staff, he will find out so much about the squad over the next few weeks. As well as this, the Chelsea head coach will discover which of his youngsters he can trust for the upcoming season and those who will have a role within the first-team squad for his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
A lot of them will be loaned out before the new season starts. football.london understands defender Bashir Humphreys has plenty of interest in his services and the 20-year-old is likely to be loaned out before the transfer window closes.
Before these players are loaned out, though, they are expected to be handed a chance by Pochettino in America. The Chelsea head coach recently explained how these upcoming matches are crucial to see if the younger players are ready to participate for the first-team or not.
"Football is about to win and to create good feelings. Even if we play a friendly tomorrow with young kids, it is about the mentality."
He added: "Tomorrow will be a good possibility to see the young guys, to show and to prove they are ready to play for a football club like us. No pressure, but they need to show."
