Tuesday evening was a real setback for Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino. Although there is a second-leg to be played in two weeks' time, the Blues fell to a 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
It led to some pretty ugly scenes at full-time, with the travelling Chelsea contingent venting their anger and frustration at the players after what was a really poor display at the Riverside Stadium. For Pochettino, this competition has added significance as he looks to win a trophy in his debut season with the club.
Chelsea are expected to continue to show Pochettino their full support but if he could win a major honour in his first campaign at Stamford Bridge, that would certainly demonstrate real signs of progress. The Blues, though, have it all to do when Boro come to west London later this month for the return leg.
It is a busy period for the club on and off the pitch. The January transfer window has now been open for 10 days and all we have seen from Chelsea is a couple of players leave the club on loan deals.
There is, however, expected to be some movement in terms of incomings at Stamford Bridge between now and the end of the month. There have been numerous meetings behind the scenes involving Pochettino and sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley as Chelsea look to improve their squad.
As always with Chelsea, there is so, so much to discuss and debate. So, Bobby Vincent answered all of your questions on X – formerly Twitter – about the Blues and we have written up a full transcript for you.
