Mikel Arteta internal Newcastle meeting - Arsenal VAR anger, referee complaint, Edu approval

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has opened up about his touchline antics and passionate rants ahead of this evening's Premier League clash with Newcastle.

The Gunners boss has been on the receiving end of criticism throughout the season for his behaviour in the dug-out and comments on officials. Tonight, Arteta faces a rematch with Newcastle three months after the controversial St James' Park clash.

Newcastle won the game 1-0 thanks to Anthony Gordon's strike. The game is well-remembered for the VAR controversy with the goal itself and a number of fouls escaping red cards.

Prior to Gordon's goal, the ball seemed as though to go out of play for a goal-kick in the build-up. There was also a claim that Gabriel was fouled inside the box and Gordon was himself in an offside position before scoring.

Bruno Guimaraes and Kai Havertz were fortunate to escape red cards, also. Guimaraes was spotted throwing a forearm at Jorginho in midfield before Havertz's risky lunge on the touchline wasn't deemed dangerous enough.

After the game, Arteta let rip in his post-match press conference before an official club statement backed the Spaniard's comments. The Arsenal boss has continued to be a passionate figure on the sidelines and he has insisted that will not change.
