Mikel Arteta provides update on Nicolas Pepe transfer situation as deadline approaches
Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Nicolas Pepe's future ahead of the closure of the English transfer window at 11pm on Friday night.
The Ivorian has not been involved in the matchday squad for any of Arsenal's pre-season matches in Germany, the USA or in London. He has also been omitted from the group for all three of the Gunners' Premier League games so far.
Pepe only returned to training in the last fortnight after spending most of the summer recovering from a knee injury away from London Colney. It is safe to say that he is no longer a part of Arteta's plans, and speaking on Friday the Spaniard revealed that Arsenal are working on a solution to see the 28-year-old leave north London this summer.
«We are still looking for solutions and there is a lot of communication between his agent and the player and the club at the moment.,» he said. «There is nothing to announce at the moment.»
Pepe is understood to have attracted interest from Besiktas in Turkey and a Saudi Arabian side. The Saudi transfer deadline does not come until September 7, while the Turkish transfer window remains open until September 15. This means that Pepe could well leave beyond the English transfer deadline which closes at 11pm on Friday night.
