Newcastle United are said to be scheduling a meeting to discuss their potential chase of Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips, with the player supposedly keen on a move.
Eddie Howe, though, has long outlined how Financial Fair Play could impair the club’s ability to sign who they want this window, meaning landing Phillips would be made difficult should City command a loan fee.
Newcastle are nevertheless looking for a midfield replacement for Sandro Tonali amid his betting ban while Phillips will be eager for game time so he can cement his place in England’s Euro 2024 squad. He has failed to start a Premier League game this season and has begun just two of his 10 overall appearances.

Pep Guardiola has not ruled out a January exit, admitting last month that he has failed to get the best out of the midfielder. Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards told the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily podcast that Newcastle are due to sit down to discuss their January options this week with Phillips said to ‘tick all of the boxes’.
Meanwhile, USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen looks poised to leave City with The Athletic reporting that the 28-year-old has agreed terms with Colorado Rapids in the MLS. The report states he is set to sign on a three-year deal having not played all season.
