Jurgen Klopp insists there will be no big-name exodus in the wake of his shock decision to quit Liverpool.
Virgil van Dijk set fans’ alarm bells ringing by admitting he did not know if he would be part of the post-Klopp era on Merseyside. And with the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold also expiring in 18 months’ time, there is a growing uncertainty over the future of Klopp’s marquee players.
But Klopp was scornful of the suggestion his title-challenging squad could be broken up after his departure. The Liverpool boss said: “These players love to be here, don’t forget that. It (contract discussion) will happen behind the scenes.
“Things need time. Don’t worry. It is fine. The boys love this place. I know that for a fact. It is not that they have one foot out. They want to know a little bit of perspective but that is there and will happen, especially behind the scenes.
“A week ago, when no-one knew about my situation, no-one asked. Nobody has to worry. This club is stable, 100 percent, and everything will be fine, I am 100 percent sure. I would recommend to stay calm in this department, massively. There is enough time to do everything.”
Alexander-Arnold, having made his comeback from a short injury lay-off, is likely to start against Chelsea tonight, with Klopp also confirming that Alexis Mac Allister is available after missing the FA Cup win over Norwich on Sunday.
And the Liverpool boss is expecting a big test against a Mauricio Pohcettino side that has won four of its last five Premier League games.
