Pep Guardiola has revealed that Manchester City are set to welcome back John Stones and Mateo Kovacic ahead of the Premier League clash against Tottenham. Speaking ahead of the huge fixtures this weekend, Guardiola told reporters: «Mateo [Kovacic] is back, training well.
»Matheus [Nunes] is the last days [of recovery]," he added. When asked for an update on John Stones' fitness, the City boss said: «Much better.
»Close to coming back. He'll be with us, I don't know if he'll play but he'll be there."
Kovacic and Stones' return will be a huge boost for City as they look to return to winning ways following their 1-1 draw against Liverpool last weekend. Tottenham can take a huge step forwards with a win against the reigning champions and put themselves back into the frame for a title challenge after three consecutive defeats.
Spurs' form has been hampered by injuries to key players such as James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, whilst there are long-term issues for Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon. Rodrigo Bentancur became the latest injury concern and it has now been revealed that the Uruguayan midfielder is set to be sidelined until 2024.
When asked by football.london if injuries was something he's ever had to deal with this to this extent before, Postecoglou said: «I haven't thought a lot about it but fair to say I don't think so, not in such a high volume and short space of time. To have this much in such a short space of time, is probably the first time and that's what you love about football. Always something new to deal with.»
