Latest Chelsea news as Mauricio Pochettino is sent a clear positional message regarding Ben Chilwell
Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher have made up the midfield in the last two weeks with the latter two culpable in allowing Nottingham Forest to turn over possession and score the only goal this past weekend. With Cole Palmer in the squad for the first time following his £45million move from Manchester City, supporters used his benching in their anger towards Pochettino starting Chilwell over him, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk.
"I have been playing left-back and then left wing-back and now I am, again, higher up the pitch. I expect the pressure on me to contribute to goals. That’s something I am going to work on at Chelsea over the next few games to add that goal threat. [I need to] shoot, instead of passing the ball."
Despite Chilwell's plea, former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy has been left utterly baffled by Pochettino's decision with his concise message making his feelings very clear. “Chilwell left wing. What’s going on here? He’s a left-back. I’m shocked,” Murphy told FIVE’s YouTube channel.
This is one Chilwell's longest stints in the team without suffering an injury setback following his £45million move from Leicester in 2020, however the return of a defensive duo could see the tactics change.
Further forward, Armando Broja is close to being ready for his first competitive outing in over ten months after he suffered an ACL injury last December in a mid-season friendly, before the Premier League resumed after the World Cup, against Aston Villa.
