Brandon Diau has linked up with Portadown to fortify their promotion bid from the Championship
Portadown fans will be hoping that new defender Brandon Diau will help the club make a giant leap towards promotion.
The 6ft 6in centre-back has been at 18 different clubs during his career that has seen the well-travelled Congo youth international play in Germany, Israel, Romania, Iceland and England. His most recent club was League of Wales outfit Colwyn Bay.
Diau said: “I’m very happy to be signing for Portadown. It feels like I’ve found a home and literally can’t wait to get started and help get this team back into where they belong.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the Portadown supporters in the games to come and hopefully can give them plenty to cheer about.”
On Saturday, Diau will make his debut away to second-placed Dundela.
Portadown weren’t the only team to dip into the transfer market on Friday. Ards boss John Bailie has signed strikers Lee Newell (Newry City) and Guillaume Keke (Knockbreda), however neither will be able to play against League leaders Institute at Clandeboye Park. Stute will give a debut to former Northern Ireland left-back Danny Lafferty.
Keke’s old club Breda host Annagh United in a 2pm kick-off, while Ballyclare Comrades face Ballinamallard United at Inver Park as an artificial surface is being installed at Dixon Park.
It’s Ballyclare’s first game since striker Calvin McCurry joined Ballymena United. Dergview face Bangor at Darragh Park with Lee Feeney expected to hand defender Callum Byers a debut, while Newington travel to play Harland and Wolff Welders.
