Mauricio Pochettino saw the pressure on his job as Chelsea manager ramped up following the 2-2 Premier League draw against Brentford. Taking advantage of any momentum gained from the FA Cup win over Leeds United earlier in the week quickly dissipated as yet another lacklustre performance was put in by the Blues.
Nicolas Jackson had given Chelsea the lead with a bullet header from a superb Malo Gusto cross; however, the Bees completed a second-half turnaround with Mads Roerslev stabbing home the equaliser before Yoane Wissa fired in a stunning overhead kick.
Axel Disasi saved Pochettino's blushes somewhat with a late header, but Chelsea fans had already made their feelings perfectly clear with a number of derogatory chants. While salvaging a draw was a positive, the performance was trepid, and after the game, Pochettino appeared to explain why that was the case when addressing his midfield.
«We don't have the possibility to refresh the players in a key area,» he admitted in a press conference. «After six days, we competed in three really tough games. I think the effort was massive.
»It was difficult in the second-half to keep the same energy. I think that was important in the game."
Following another game where points were dropped, pressure on Pochettino is now at an all-time high, with the national media all suggesting there may be no way back for the 52-year-old.
