Ramsdale up against Man Utd & ex-Arsenal stars for award amid Arteta keeper call

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been nominated for the 2023 Yashin Trophy.
The award is given to the best-performing keeper over the course of the year, with Ramsdale joined on the nominations list by the likes of Andre Onana of Manchester United and Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez. The Gunners shot-stopper enjoyed a hugely impressive 2022/23 campaign and he was rewarded last week, making it into the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
The England international was joined by teammates William Saliba, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, the latter of whom won the Young Player of the Year Award as well. Despite Ramsdale's solid showings, reports have emerged that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is considering dropping him for summer signing David Raya after the international break.
It is claimed that the former Brentford No.1 has impressed in training since his arrival from the Gtech Stadium last month. But Arteta's decision to sign Raya, who is yet to make his debut for the north Londoners, has been questioned by Manchester United legend Gary Neville in recent times.
Assessing the transfer on Sky Sports, Neville said: "I've said this before, that I'm not a fan of competition for goalkeepers; I think you need a clear No.1 and then a clear No.2. That's my view having experienced it at United [like that]."
He added: "The problem is, you end up with a situation [where] every time a goalkeeper makes a mistake - which they inevitably do - you end up in a situation where you say: 'Will they then play the next guy the next week'.
