Rangers are unlikely to appoint Michael Beale's replacement before Sunday’s Scottish Premiership match at St Mirren, live on Sky Sports.
Sky Sports News understands the club are ready to take their time in order to find the correct long-term fit, with Gers legend Steven Davis leading an interim management team of Alex Rae, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour and Colin Stewart.
Beale's successor will be the fourth different manager to take charge at Ibrox in the space of two years following Steven Gerrard's move to Aston Villa in 2021, and the dismissals of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, then Beale in the years thereafter.
It is understood former Chelsea boss Graham Potter had not been approached for the role — despite reports.
Ex-Gers defender Kevin Muscat — who succeeded Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama F Marinos when Postecoglou joined Celtic — has also been linked with the job.
While it is reported Muscat and AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jensen would be interested in speaking to Rangers — no approach has been made as the club draw up a shortlist of suitable candidates.
The search — led by CEO James Bisgrove and chairman John Bennett — is under way, but what do Rangers need?
