Steven Davis will take charge of Rangers for the first time on Thursday night
Steven Davis wants to bring pride back to Rangers in his role as interim manager following a poor start to the season for the club which led to Michael Beale being sacked as boss.
The Northern Ireland legend revealed on Monday that it has been a ‘crazy’ period since receiving a call on Sunday evening from the board asking him to take charge at Ibrox following Beale’s dismissal. He admitted it was an opportunity he simply could not turn down and that he was relishing the challenge.
The 38-year-old midfielder’s first match as boss is in Cyprus on Thursday in the Europa League against Aril Limassol before a Sunday clash at Stephen Robinson’s high-flying St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers are already seven points behind leaders Celtic after losing three of their first seven League games including 3-1 at home to Aberdeen at the weekend which proved to be the final match for Beale whose selections, tactics and summer signings have been slammed in recent weeks.
Before this new chapter in his career, Davis had been focusing on his rehabilitation and recovery from a serious knee injury suffered last December.
Now, assisted by ex-Rangers player Alex Rae, he is determined to get his boyhood club back on track ahead of them appointing a new long term manager.
Speaking to Rangers TV, the Cullybackey native said: “I just want to try and get some pride back in terms of how we play and try and get the boys’ confidence back as well.
“We want to try and get results back in place where we’d like them to be.
